1 THRUPP, G. A. The History of Coaches.
London: Kerby & Endean, 1877. First edition. Letter signed by author. Hardcover
8vo. (8.5 x 5.5 inches). pp.xii, 152, 4 (adverts). 18 pages of plates with 38 numbered illusts. The numbering of illusts is erratic. For example, plate 38 is on the same page as plates 29 and 30, opposite p.77, whereas plate 36 is opposite p.116 and plate 37 is the frontispiece. Original red cloth, blocked in gilt, decorated in black to front cover and spine. Spine faded, soiled and with closed tear or split to head of spine at front outer joint. Frayed to outer joints at foot of spine. Coated endpapers. Oval blind-stamp to front and rear free endpapers, and occasionally throughout: '"Exhibition of Navigation, Travelling & Commerce 1886 - Offices 11a, Exchange Buildings, Liverpool". Occasional marks in blue crayon to margins. O/w contents clean and bright. Binding firm and square. No inscriptions. A better than Very Good copy. Uncommon. Handwritten 3-page letter (marked 'Copy') fixed to rear pastedown. Apparently a letter to the 1886 exhibitors strongly advising against the award of medals, signed G. A. Thrupp. We are members of the P.B.F.A. Enquiries welcome; click on a link to contact direct.
