8vo. (7.75 x 5.75 inches). pp.195. Pictorial front endpapers. Colour frontis and b/w illusts by Pauline Baynes. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in silver to spine. Pictorial d/w, not price-clipped (10s 6d), slight wear to head and foot of backstrip, just-nicked here and there, short closed tears to edges, now inner-repaired with archival tape, white paper to backstrip and lower panel slightly grubby or browned. D/w seems too large for book, and is a little baggy. Spotting to prelims to about p.7 and to extrems from about p.192. Spotting to top and fore-edges. O/w contents clean and bright. Binding firm and square. No inscriptions. A Very Good copy in a like d/w with all the points present for a first edition, first printing: the publisher's imprint information on the colophon (to the rear of the book) states 'First published 1951', the colour frontispiece depicts the dance scene in chapter 11, and there is the map of Narnia on the front endpapers. The points that indicate the first state of the d/w are publisher's 'blurb' and price '10s. 6d. (line break) net' on the front turn-in, with reviews of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe to the rear panel, and 'APTV/10' printed to the rear turn-in. We are members of the P.B.F.A.
